Seixal | Sailboat runs aground in the military zone of Ponta dos Corvos

A sailboat ran aground in Ponta dos Corvos, Seixal, during the early hours of March 21st, after being adrift in the Tagus River.

A family member of the vessel’s only crew member alerted the authorities during the night of the previous day, warning that he was adrift and in difficulties.

Elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police and the Lisbon Lifeguard Station were called to the scene, and elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police and the Firefighters Sapadores of Lisbon were also called to the scene, after several unsuccessful telephone contacts with the crew member. .

Firefighters and the Maritime Police carried out searches on land and in the river between Alcântara and Marinha da Expo and from Almada to Seixal and Barreiro, detecting the sailboat stranded near the military zone of Ponta dos Corvos.

Members of the Maritime Police, in collaboration with members of the Lifeguard Station, safely rescued the crew member and, as he was the owner, he was notified to present a plan to remove the sailboat from the place where it ran aground.
