Terrorist attack in Moscow: two suspects were detained after chase

The head of the Duma’s International Policy Committee quoted by Reuters, said this Saturday morning on Telegram that two suspects in the terrorist attack in Moscow were detained in the Bryansk region. In total, according to a report released by international agencies, the Kremlin detained 11 people following the shooting, four of whom were identified as the alleged attackers.

Two of the suspects who carried out the attack in the concert hall Crocus City Hall, in one of the largest shopping centers on the outskirts of Moscow, were detained this morning after “a car chase”.

The Bryansk region is located around 340 kilometers from the site of the attack, on the border with Ukraine and Belarus.

The head of the International Policy Committee of the Duma, lower house of parliament, Alexander Khinstein, said that the police intercepted a fleeing vehicle near the town of Jatsun, Bryansk region, and inside they found a pistol, a charger for a firearm robbery and passports to Tajikistan, reported the Russian agency TASS.

O The intercepted vehicle is a white Renault, matching the initial description provided by authorities about the car in which those responsible for the attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall fled.

Immediately after the announcement, the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that it had not received “confirmation from the Russian authorities” about the nationality of the attackers and asked the public to wait for official identity verification, according to a statement published on the social network Telegram.

“It must be taken into account that the dissemination of unconfirmed and unreliable information could harm citizens of Tajikistan who are currently outside the country”, highlighted the Tajik Government.

Meanwhile, the Russian President’s ally, former spy Nikolai Patrushev, stated, quoted by TASS, that “those responsible will be punished” and that “this attack proves that terrorism is a significant threat to Russia”.

Between four and five men – information regarding the number of attackers is still unclear – opened fire with automatic weapons on spectators who were waiting for a concert by the Russian rock band Picnic, in a room with a capacity for more than six thousand people and which was , this Friday, practically packed.

Death toll continues to rise

The latest balance indicates that at least 115 people died and 150 were injured, dozens in serious condition. There are at least four children hospitalized.

“The death toll will rise even further. (…) According to preliminary data, the causes of these deaths were gunshot wounds and poisoning by combustion products.”

According to researchers, the suspects used a “flammable liquid” to set fire to the concert hallwhere there were still dozens of people.”

“Ballistic, genetic and fingerprint tests are currently being carried out,” reveals the investigation, cited by international agencies.
