The paving work on the streets of Mártires, do Município and D. José Alves Correia da Silva, in Leiria, will require cuts and restrictions on traffic circulation, starting on Monday, the 25th, and until the 12th of April.

The interventions will be carried out in phases and will take place, “mostly” during the Easter school holidays, affecting access to the Town Hall, Court and Social Security areas and the Capuchos Neighborhood.

The municipality explains, in a statement, that the intervention on each of the streets will take a week and the constraints (cutting or constraints) “will depend on the type of work in progress, that is, whether it is milling or paving”.

In that note, the chamber also guarantees that “an alternative will always be guaranteed for anyone wishing to access this area, whether residents, workers, loading and unloading”.

The works will begin on Rua dos Mártires (between the city hall intersections and Avenida Papa Francisco), including Largo da República. The intervention follows on Rua do Município, then on to Rua D. José Alves Correia da Silva, in the section between the roundabouts of Avenida Marquês de Pombal and Cruz d’Areia).

With these works, the aim is to “improve road conditions, reinforce road markings and vertical signage and also implement traffic calming measures”, explains the municipality, which calls for the adoption of alternative routes.

The planned timetable is as follows:

1st Phase – Rua dos Mártires (section between Rua dos Mártires and the intersections of Largo da República), from 25th to 28th March

On the 25th, anyone going up Rua Machado Santos is prevented from turning right, towards Rua dos Mártires and Bairro dos Capuchos. To access these areas, you will have to use Rua João Soares, the A19 and the Capuchos bypass

On the 26th and 27th, Machado Santos Street and part of João Soares (up to the roundabout near the schools) and the section in front of the city hall will be closed to traffic. An alternative is to use Avenida Marquês de Pombal and the A19.

On the 28th, traffic will be restricted in Largo da República.

2nd Phase – Rua do Município, from the 1st to the 5th of April

Between the 1st and 4th of April, the section of Rua do Município between Largo da República (traffic lights in front of the city hall) and the roundabout on Avenida Marquês de Pombal will be closed to traffic, for milling and paving work.

On April 5th, the work will force the section between the roundabout on Avenida Marquês de Pombal and Rua Norton Matos to be closed to traffic).

3rd Phase: Rua D. José Alves Correia da Silva (between Rua Norton Matos and Cruz da Areia roundabout), from 9 to 12 April

On the 8th and 9th of April, the section between Norton de Matos and Francisco Pereira da Silva streets (which gives access to the Seminar) will be closed to traffic. Circulation will be via this last street and Avenida Marquês de Pombal.

On April 10th, the section between Rua Francisco Pereira da Silva and the Cruz d’Areia roundabout will close to traffic.

On the 11th and 12th of April, the intervened section (between Rua Norton Matos and the Cruz da Areia roundabout) will have alternating circulation.

The restrictions will be in force, in all phases of the work, from 9 am to 6 pm. Alternative routes can be consulted here
