Celorico de Basto: Open Presidency returns to bring elected officials closer to citizens

Codessoso welcomed the municipal executive and the parish executive in office and, in unison, aligned the parish’s development strategy, always with people as a priority. The working meeting gave greater emphasis to the addendum to the protocol signed in 2012 between Resinorte – recovery and Treatment of Solid Waste and the Municipality of Celorico de Basto, making it clear that “there are difficulties in interpreting it and it is necessary, before taking any decision, remove all doubts and align the decision in accordance with the interests of the parish and the municipality”, said José Peixoto Lima, president of the Municipal Council of Celorico de Basto.
At issue is the allocation of 800 thousand euros, which Resinorte intends to give to the municipality and the parish council, to be invested in the parish, in return for the growth in height of cell 1 of the landfill, after having created a dispute with several entities state-owned.
A growth that increased the visual impact of the landfill and increased bad smells. This is a counterpart recently approved by the Secretary of State for the Environment after extensive meetings. This is more than due compensation, but it may be refused if the addendum to the protocol now placed raises doubts about the activity and capacity of the landfill. Mayor stated that he will never give any consent to increases in capacity or expansions of the landfill beyond those approved by the city council in 2012. A subject widely discussed and unanimous in the decision to safeguard the interests of the parish and its inhabitants.
At the meeting it was announced that Codessoso is a parish that already has 15 families registered in the Local Housing Strategy, with 10 processes that have already been submitted and five are awaiting submission, completing an investment of 600 thousand euros.
At this work meeting it was also announced that the sidewalks and railings in the parish will be carried out in the short term, the need for urgent intervention and a deep intervention in the Fiães de Cima Leisure Park were mentioned, necessary rehabilitation to provide the space with greater dignity to welcome visitors who come to this park to enjoy moments of leisure, especially during spring and summer. A space that includes a sports center and the municipal swimming pools of Codessoso and which is intended to be increasingly attractive. The rehabilitation program for the old primary school and kindergarten and the need to give them a useful purpose for the parish were also discussed.
