The CDU promoted, yesterday, in Funchal, a lunch-rally where it declared itself as “the force most capable of fighting injustice” and accused Miguel Albuquerque of having led Madeira to “a state of rot”.

Helena Câmara, from CDU Youth, stated that “there is a force capable of combating and overthrowing right-wing politics”: the CDU. “It’s with you all year round, in your company, in your school, in your neighborhood, fighting against injustice”, she highlighted.

“Madeiran and Porto-Santense youth have been victims of policies of exploitation and impoverishment, we have been victims of low wages, precariousness, unregulated schedules, stress at work” pointed out Helena Câmara in her intervention, to which she countered that it is necessary “ensure that our future is a good future, with everything we are entitled to”.

In turn, Edgar Silva, given the current political situation in the Region, pointed out “democratic impoverishment and political-institutional degradation”, to which is added “the worsening of the economic and social situation”. According to the party’s regional coordinator, in Madeira “the putrefaction of Autonomy and the swamp of democracy is underway”.

The CDU leader stressed that “the rot reached an unbearable state with the resignation of Miguel Albuquerque. After guaranteeing that he would resign immediately after the elections last September, if he did not obtain an absolute majority, that resigned officer made his resignation official on two other occasions with the Representative of the Republic, recognizing that he would not be able to exercise government functions, in the following police investigations into which he was the subject of corruption. After all this, he insists on being trapped in the Regional Government”.

Edgar Silva further criticized that “these cases have led the Region to a state of rot in which Autonomy is more like an open sewer, with a nauseating smell of discredit and discrediting of autonomic institutions. Added to all this is the inability of the governments, the PS, in the Republic, and the PSD/CDS, in this Region, to resolve the major economic and social problems”.

Finally, he stated that “a new direction for development is urgent and necessary, a rupture is possible, a political shift cannot be postponed so that an alternative can be created to the current state of rot that exists in this land”.
