Vespers prayer and the Procession of Senhor dos Passos took place this Palm Sunday afternoon through the streets of the historic center of Viana do Castelo, with the Encounter Sermon in Praça da República.
Also this Sunday, there was a biblical recreation of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, in Alvarães, at the S. Miguel Church.
On the 26th and 27th of March, new workshops are expected – Easter Eggs and Mãos no Doce -, at Praça da República, from 10:30 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 17:00, included in the municipal program “Easter Sweet”.
On Holy Thursday, the Cathedral hosts the Chrism Mass, at 10:00. At 7:00 pm, that religious space is the stage for the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, with washing of feet, presentation of offerings for the poor and Procession of the Blessed Sacrament.
That night, the city promotes the traditional Visit to Churches and Chapels, between 8:00 pm and midnight.
That same day, from 10:00 to 24:00, the Museum of Decorative Arts presents, as part of its permanent exhibitions, Sacred Art and Table and Easter Table Services.
During Holy Week, the municipality of Viana do Castelo also proposes a Sweet Itinerary, “so that visitors can experience another sweet Easter tradition and, in an odd number, like a church or chapel, taste the sweets and delicacies of Viana pastry shops”.
On Good Friday, March 29, at 10:00, Office of Readings and Lauds – Sé Cathedral. At 3:00 pm, Celebration of the Lord’s Passion and, at 9:00 pm, Stations of the Cross in the city.
On Holy Saturday, March 30th, at 11:00, DIXIE BAND – Zé Pedro Associação Musical de Viana do Castelo promotes a rally through the historic center. The Queimas de Judas is already a tradition in the Viennese municipality: at 11:00, in a procession through the city streets from the train station (arrival at 12:00 at Campo d’Agonia), at 9:00 pm in the Parish Churchyard de Deocriste and at 23:00 in Largo das Neves.
On Easter Sunday, Viana do Castelo City Council opens its doors to Compasso Pascal at 9:00 am. The Sé Cathedral has a Eucharist scheduled for 9:30, 11:00 and 18:00.
Easter for Three, in Largo das Neves, closes the program at 12:30 on April 1st, with a set of initiatives that take place during the Easter period in the communities that toast at Mesa dos Três Abades – Barroselas, Mujães and Vila de Punches.
