In a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, the president announced that he will listen to the parties that appear in the Madeira Regional Assembly after the resignation of Miguel Albuquerque from the leadership of the regional government.

The first party to be received will be the Bloco de Esquerda, at 10 am, followed by the PAN, Liberal Initiative, PCP, CDS-PP, Chega, JPP, Socialist Party and Social Democratic Party, at around 3 pm.

At 6:00 pm, the President of the Republic announced a new State Council on the political situation in the autonomous region of Madeira, after six months of the elected government of Miguel Albuquerque, who was once again elected leader of PSD Madeira at the end of the year. -weekend.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa regained the power to dissolve the Legislative Assembly of Madeira earlier this week, six months after the regional elections on September 24, which the PSD/CDS-PP coalition won without an absolute majority.

Madeira was shaken towards the end of January with several searches in the autonomous region by the Judiciary Police at Funchal City Hall and at Miguel Albuquerque’s official residence.

After some arrests, Pedro Calado resigned as president of the Funchal Chamber and after some pressure, namely from the PAN, which threatened to withdraw political confidence, Miguel Albuquerque ended up resigning as president of the regional government.

Miguel Albuquerque ended up being accused, and Pedro Calado, Avelino Farinha and Custódio Correia ended up being released after three weeks in detention in Lisbon. At issue are suspicions of corruption, influence peddling, abuse of power and attacks on the rule of law.

Next Wednesday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will decide the political future of Madeira: whether he will appoint a new leader for the regional government or whether Madeira will go to elections again.
