Sara Naves Sousa, professor of the degree course in Animated Image at the Higher School of Education and Communication at UAlg, won the special prize from the Vasco Granja jury, at the “Monstra 2024” International Animation Festival, for her animated short film “Estado of Soul.”

The festival, which emerged in 2000, aims to celebrate artistic transversality, promote meetings between people from different arts and transmit new aesthetic perspectives, using animated cinema as a base.

The awards ceremony took place on March 17th, at Cinema São Jorge, in Lisbon.

According to the University of Algarve, in a published note, directed and written by Sara Naves, “Estado de Alma”, is an animated short film, lasting 12 minutes, which tells the story of Alma, a woman who “ she wakes up every day with a new condition, suffering the most varied physical transformations that reflect her feelings of inadequacy and prevent her from following a normal daily routine. With each passing day, Alma gradually feels more alone and separated from everyone”, reads the film’s synopsis.
