ANDPortugal’s last opponent in the group stage of Euro’2024 has been found. After 120 minutes of play, Georgia confirmed their presence this Tuesday after defeating Greece. The duel ended goalless in regulation time and penalties had to be taken.
In Tbilisi, in the final of Path C of the playoffs, the Georgians, who had beaten Luxembourg to be in this game, were looking for their first presence in the final stage of a European Championship. On the other side, the Greeks, who had ex-Benfica Odysseas Vlachodimos in goal, were also trying to return to a European Championship.
However, Mamardashvili turned out to be the home team’s hero. Georgia scored four of five penalty kicks – while the Greeks missed two of four – and won 4-2 in the shoot-out, sealing a meeting with the national team at the end of the group stage of Euro’2024, in Gelsenkirchen, on 26 of June.
The Georgians also join hosts Germany, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, France, Hungary, England, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey.
