The president of the Braga CDS Council points to the Agro- International Agriculture, Livestock and Food Fair as an example that “the rural world continues to play an important and indispensable role in economic recovery and growth” and an “ode” to the agricultural sector and “to all those who invest in this, despite the limited state support”.

Altino Bessa, following his visit to the 56th edition of the event, which received more than 50 thousand visitors between Thursday and Sunday, states, in a note to PressMinho, that Agro means “a fundamental margin” in raising awareness for the valorization of rural heritage.

The centrist leader and councilor in the municipality of Braga, highlights that during its four days, the fair invited rural agents, through conferences, “to reflect on their respective territories and apply original sustainable and quality development strategies, focused in new ways of valuing natural and cultural heritage and strengthening the economic environment, namely, contributing to the creation of jobs and improving the organizational capacity of rural communities”.

Altino Bessa also highlights the training and entrepreneurial aspect of the event by promoting “a look at the rural world” as “a sector of opportunities for the future”, in contrast to the lack of support from the Central Power, which “does not encourage or support interterritorial and transnational cooperation as a privileged way of disseminating and transferring innovative and successful experiences, enabling joint projects and stimulating collaborative relationships between rural community territories”.

“It is urgent that policies that promote self-sustainability be put in place so that our farmers and companies in rural areas can invest and innovate in the territory with the future in mind. Only then will we have sustainable, balanced and wealth-generating rural development”, she maintains.

Considering support for family farming, the development of quality products and the valorization of the environment and rural heritage “imperative”, the president of the Braga centrists states that the Fair is “representative of the work carried out by farmers in the region, but also a way of identifying some investment gaps in a sector that is so important for the local economy”.

Stating that Agro “is part of the identity and memory of the municipality”, as demonstrated by the wall filled with images of its 56 editions, in front of which the CDS delegation allowed itself to be photographed, Bessa says that the Fair “is an example that the The rural world continues to play an important and indispensable role in economic recovery and growth”.
