THE LOOKOUT | Residents of Charneca de Alcorochel ask the council to account for the poor condition of the roads

-

The new development follows the intervention of a resident who wants to be compensated for the damage that the poor road conditions caused to her vehicle.

The mayor of Torres Novas, Pedro Ferreira (PS), assured at the last public meeting of the executive, held on March 13, that the project’s preparation phase will begin with the requalification of the streets of Mirante, Escola and Largo do cemetery, in Charneca de Alcorochel. The poor condition of the floors has been highly contested by the population who, once again, were represented at a council meeting by resident Maria Alves, who spoke to raise awareness of the problem.
The project, said the mayor, has a planned investment of 250 thousand euros (plus VAT), of which 170 thousand euros relate to the streets and 80 thousand euros to the arrangement of the cemetery square. In general, he added, the work includes a road, pedestrian and cycling project, vertical and horizontal signage, a stability project for possible works to be incorporated due to the absence of sidewalks and water drainage, a drinking water supply project, a reformulation and reinforcement of electrical installations, expansion of the natural gas supply network and waste management plan.

Residents want compensation for damage to their vehicles
Maria Alves, who had attended a council meeting in January to complain about the same issue, stressed that the circulation conditions in those streets have been deteriorating, with there now being authentic open ditches that make car circulation very difficult. The resident, who claims to have replaced the tires on her vehicle around six months ago and they are now in poor condition again, stated that the injured residents will send a complaint to the municipality demanding compensation for the damage caused.
Regarding this matter, Pedro Ferreira confirmed that there is municipal insurance for this type of situation and that residents can submit their complaints. Complaints will have to be evaluated later by the insurer.
