Elderly couple injured in traffic accident on the A1 near the Condeixa-a-Nova exit

An elderly couple was injured after the car they were traveling in crashed on the A1, near Condeixa-a-Nova, this Wednesday. Both had minor abrasions and injuries considered minor by the INEM and Soure firefighters’ rescue teams.

The accident occurred in the south-north direction, a few meters from the Condeixa-a-Nova exit, when the vehicle, in which the couple, aged 74 and 88, were traveling, crashed. The car left the carriageway onto the shoulder, and went up the embankment where it rolled over several times until it came to rest with its wheels in the air, off the road.

The jeep was driven by the 74-year-old woman, and the 88-year-old man was at her side, in the place where the two were removed from the vehicle, using extrication material.

During the relief operations, the location was signaled by the GNR, which did not stop traffic on the A1.

The alert for the accident was given at 3:23 pm. It wasn’t raining at the time and the ground was dry. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police authority.

Apparently the elderly came from the Greater Lisbon area and moved to the northern region, where they would spend Easter. In the trunk of the car they had several suitcases with clothes, food, drinks, wrapped gifts, almonds and chocolate eggs, which were spread over several meters.
