Swiss Pastry shop opens its doors again in Lisbon

-

The Swiss pastry shop closed its doors in 2018, when it was about to celebrate a century of existence, leaving many people unhappy.

But this week it became known that it is about to write a new chapter in its history, with the announcement of its reopening very close to its original location.

Figueira Square, in the heart of the capital, will be your new home for Swiss pastry, with inauguration scheduled for next April, said the Primefood group, which is known for value the tradition of national gastronomy, having in its business portfolio, houses such as Pastelaria Versailles, Fábrica da Nata or Padaria Lisboa.

Customer generations

We are sure that this group will preserve and maintain the name and history almost a century-old tradition of Swiss pastry, which for decades was the favorite leisure space for many Lisbon residents and visitors to the city.

Generations of new and old customers passed through there, characterizing themselves as mandatory stopping point of those visiting the country’s capital, who at the counter could choose between a wide range of sweets and other flavors.

The Swiss pastry shop is not far from where it was, in the middle of Praça D. Pedro IV, better known as Rossio, now moving to the back, in Praça da Figueira, although in a space a little smaller than the original.

But there are things that are already certain in the new Swiss pastry shop: the existence of a terrace is ensuredand, of course, the essence of own-made pastries and sweets, among them the famous Eskimo, which is a mix of sponge cake, egg cream and chocolate icing.

What happened to the old Swiss pastry shop?

Straight to the point: the block where the Swiss pastry shop existed was sold to a Spanish fund, which will open soon one of the largest Zara stores in the world.

This situation occurred in 2018, when the pastry shop would be about to celebrate its centenary, leaving everyone perplexed and dissatisfied.

So this is good news for everyone who continues to enhance the cultural and gastronomic heritage of Lisbon.

There is a doubt, however, that persists: will the new management of the Swiss pastry shop be able to bring back the famous and giant neon that stood out in the distance, and that until now has been in the possession of our friends Rita and Paulo, responsible for the Letreiro Galeria project?

New address: Figueira Square 5C
Schedules: every day from 8am to 10pm
