Jornal de Leiria – Leiria receives national collection to support patients with digestive cancers

Leiria will host a campaign from Europacolon Portugal, aimed at raising funds to support patients with digestive cancer, from the 5th to the 7th of April.

This initiative, carried out annually by this Private Social Solidarity Institution, aims to support the association’s programs, namely two telephone support lines, one general and one dedicated to informal caregivers, colorectal cancer screenings, face-to-face support groups and onlineeducational materials and awareness-raising events.

Digestive cancers, which include cancers of the stomach, intestine, liver, esophagus and pancreas, are the most lethal in Europe, with around 32 people dying every day in Portugal and 18,828 new cases are recorded every year. says a statement from Europacolon Portugal.

To combat this disease, the best option is early detection of the problem, and Vítor Neves, president of Europacolon Portugal, promises that the association’s objective is “to ensure that no cancer patient or their families feel helpless in this challenging journey” adding that these Pedictors represent a “significant difference in the lives of those affected by digestive cancer”.
