New images and details about the arrest of Portuguese people accused of drug trafficking in Indonesia – Portugal

Rui Viana and Fernando Sousa, Portuguese, were detained in Indonesia for cocaine trafficking. Rui allegedly hid 2,500 grams of cocaine concealed inside shampoo bottles that were intended to be consumed in Bali, authorities said, according to the IDN Times.

The drug was discovered because customs agents were suspicious of Rui’s behavior when he passed through the inspection counter at Terminal 3 at Soetta Airport, on March 17, 2024. “Customs agents who carried out surveillance in the passenger arrival area International officials were suspicious of Rui’s behavior, as he appeared hesitant and on several occasions stopped walking while making phone calls upon entering the inspection zone,” said Zaky Firmansyah, Head of Enforcement and Investigation at Soekarno-Hatta Customs.

According to Zaky, Rui Viana’s body shook when he was about to place his objects in the x-ray machine. When the luggage was opened, the black suitcase contained personal clothing in poor condition and a purple bag with two bottles of shampoo, a bottle of soap, a bottle of facial cleansing gel and a bottle of perfume. The lid and neck of the bottle were wrapped in plastic.

“The officer then x-rayed 2 bottles of shampoo and a bottle of soap. All three bottles looked suspicious,” explained Zaky. When opened, the three bottles emitted a chemical odor that did not resemble the fragrance of shampoo and soap. The agent then carried out a detection test and a body examination on Rui Vieira.

The bottles would contain up to 2.5 liters of liquid cocaine: one bottle titled Continente containing 977 ml, 1,005.4 grams; a bottle labeled Protex 09.3 ml or 729.7 grams of liquid cocaine; and a bottle of Tresemmé 912.4 ml or 938.7 grams.

Rui was taken in for questioning, where he admitted that it was his first time in Indonesia, with the aim of spending a week on holiday in Bali. He had not managed to participate in the selection of football players for a professional club and admitted that the goods had been delivered to him by someone else, on condition that he received 6000 euros for transport.

Rui said that the bottles had been delivered by his friend with the initials J, in Portugal.

During a raid on a house Fernando Sousa was discovered ready-to-use powdered cocaine weighing less than 1 gram. According to authorities, Fernando and Rui are relatives.
