Average speed radar on the Vasco da Gama Bridge?

-

In Portugal there are radars “everywhere”… The objective is to guarantee road safety, forcing drivers to comply with speed limits. An average speed radar now exists on the Vasco da Gama Bridge. But is it already “invoicing”?

Average speed radars do not indicate the instantaneous speed of vehicles, but calculate whether they traveled faster between two points on a given route. Remember that in Portugal we have fixed speed cameras, mobile speed cameras and now average speed cameras.

After several speculations, and tests that began in 2021, the Vasco da Gama Bridge now has a sign (and respective radar) that indicates that the The road is subject to speed control, through the calculation of the average speed. However, in response to Polygraphan official GNR source assures that no average speed control began to be carried out on the Vasco da Gama bridge as of this Wednesday.

The GNR states that, probably, the number of publications on the subject was due to: “the signage referring to fixed video kinemometer devices due to their location in final testing phase.” Waze itself indicates that it already knows the location of the radar.

It is also mentioned that “its entry into operation will be timely communicated“. At this moment, the device “may already be operating from a functional point of view”, but “average speed control is not yet being carried out”

Average speed cameras have their own signage on Portuguese roads: traffic sign H42. TAll National Speed Control System (SINCRO) radars are always signalised.

The objective is for everyone who travels on the roads and streets to know these places and comply, in all situations, with the speed limits, protecting not only their lives, but also that of their family and others.

For those who don't want to “memorize” the radar positions, you can always use the Waze.
