NAZA SUMMIT EDU’24 debated “digital age” with eyes on the future

-

It was the first time that the educational community of the municipality of Nazaré was gathered in a unique event in which, for four days, the Nazaré School Group, the Externato Dom Fuas Roupinho, the Escola Profissional da Nazaré, For-Mar and Cercina. In a true NAZA SUMMIT EDU’2024, the present was analyzed, but always with eyes on the future.

And the “digital era” was one of the themes that gave rise to different opinions at the large conference, which took place last Thursday morning, and which led students from various institutions to fill the Chaby Pinheiro Theater, where for almost four hours the beauty of the space was “transported” to the eloquence with which each of the speakers spoke.

On the one hand Paulo Rossas, representative of the Lisbon Digital School, argued that the future of the world is “digital”, where he considers there to be an immensity of opportunities. “You want to be gamers, so fight for it”, appealed, by way of example, the former footballer, highlighting that, above all, it is essential to have “a vision”.

For his part, the jurist and former minister of justice, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, was more reticent, considering that “the digital age does not exist”. “We are all born analogue”, he highlighted, justifying it with the need for each human being to have the freedom to define what they want to be, without it being imposed on them by the society in which they live. The university professor’s intervention was also motivated by the 50th anniversary of the Revolution, an anniversary that he took advantage of to share his vision of the “digital world”. “I will embrace the digital, as an instrument, that can be used to do everything I want, but not the digital that, because of it, has to do things according to it”, he summarized.

Digital, as mentioned above, received particular attention in the various interventions led by the six speakers who took to the stage in the concert hall. Even before this (healthy) clash of ideas about digital, Marco Bento, researcher in Educational Technology at the University of Minho, had already addressed the “digital devil”. For half an hour, the teacher focused on how technology can help evolution, adding that it must happen in a controlled manner.

After having attested to the importance of school to “filter what is reliable”, Marco Bento emphasized the difficulty in countering “saudosism” in the way “education” is thought of, giving examples with practical cases. “We have these two anesthetists (two examples were shown on the screen: an anesthetist from several decades ago and an anesthetist currently), which one would you prefer?”, he asked, establishing a “bridge” to return to the topic of education and the resistance that still persists in the educational system.

Even though he did not provide a conclusion as to where the future of education will actually go, the university professor also left a topic hanging in the air for reflection that requires ever more in-depth reflection.

The large conference, which featured a musical moment by four students from the Alcobaça Music Academy, also featured Ana Clara Simões, director of For-Mar’s planning, training and certification department, who gave some information about the economy blue and how the economy can be boosted through maritime resources, as well as Rita Borges, Project Manager at Oceano Azul, who dedicated her intervention to “Geração Azul”. Businessman Tim Vieira, CEO of BGA Brave Generation Academy, focused his intervention on innovation and creativity at school.

As a summary, the mayor of Nazaré spoke of a “very positive debut edition”. “The main objective was to bring together all the municipality’s school establishments in the same space and this was achieved. We know that everyone works for their own side, which is a perfectly normal thing, but these moments are also necessary”, said Manuel Sequeira, adding that “it was important to add synergies so that all establishments, with different offers, come together with a common goal.” That was the whole point,” he said. One of the objectives, he also added, was to “allow students to have the necessary tools to decide their future, particularly in the 9th year of schooling, where there are important decisions to be made”.

During the four days of NAZA SUMMIT EDU’24, the offer was vast, in an event in which the municipality had the support of Oonify in the organization, and which the mayor guaranteed was fundamental: “they were the ideal partners and did an exceptional job, far beyond what was agreed”, he highlighted.

Regarding the main recipients (students), the municipal chief executive highlighted the fact that this type of events contributes to reducing the “student exodus”. “We have a lot of educational offer and it is important to value it so that students are not forced to travel to schools in other municipalities”, he asserted, justifying the need to contradict the recent past.
As for the future, it is worth saying: by 2025, NAZA SUMMIT!

Laborinho Lúcio praises event

Álvaro laborinho Lúcio was responsible for closing the great conference that kicked off the NAZA SUMMIT EDU’2024 and, in statements to REGIÃO DE CISTER, he praised the initiative. “It is a very important topic in several dimensions and these types of events have a strong impact on the educational community, which is more than the school. Most of today’s problems are solved through schools and this can only be achieved with active participation. It’s great to call her and give us lines of action that will lead us to more hopeful future positions.” The jurist, writer and university professor, who holds several positions linked to Justice, was “particularly pleased” with what he found during the school event.

Some of the moments that marked the first edition of NAZA SUMMIT EDU’24

  • Recreation of the old bathing beach The first day of NAZA SUMMIT EDU’24 was marked by the recreation of the Old Nazaré Bathing Beach, a moment that allowed part of the history of Nazarene identity to be revived.
  • Music, Conductor The Nazaré School Center and the Alcobaça Music Academy promoted a unique educational experience in which music was king. This was the case of the “Concerto of Voices that inspires”.
  • Fishing nets workshop These are centuries-old techniques and are part of the lives of many Nazarenes. The fishing nets workshop revived memories and showed the youngest how it was done and (still) done. A unique heritage!
  • Children of a dream The play marked the end of Saturday afternoon in the beautiful room of the Chaby Pinheiro Theater, where a “captivating story involved the audience in an exciting saga of dreams” and which addressed Portuguese emigration.
