Casa do Povo de Ronfe celebrates 90th anniversary

Casa do Povo celebrates, this Thursday, March 28th, its 90th anniversary, a date that demonstrates its “remarkable longevity”, highlights Daniel Rodrigues, president of the institution.

Daniel Rodrigues, president of Casa do Povo de Ronfe, highlights that the 90th anniversary translates into the “remarkable longevity” of the Guimarães institution. “Sometimes 90 years can be a sign of old age, but Casa do Povo de Ronfe is very much alive, recommended and has several sections working very well. We are fulfilling our role and it is with great pride and satisfaction that we celebrate this anniversary, it is a day of celebration”, he adds.

For the leader of the structure, the Casa do Povo de Ronfe is seen as “an engine of local development”, explaining that “it has always played an important role throughout its history, which even overlaps with the history of Vila de Ronfe. ”

After “several contributions that Casa do Povo has made over the years to the community”, the structure has had a “recreational, cultural and sporting role in recent times”, understands Daniel Rodrigues. The institution has sought to address areas such as folklore, dance, music and theater classes, judo, trail running, promoting various other activities such as the Youth Festival or even establishing partnerships such as with the Ronfe Farmers Association and Voar Alto.

The institution located in Vila de Ronfe is the oldest Casa do Povo in Guimarães, an “important” factor for Daniel Rodrigues: “This is a very big responsibility for those who today assume the destiny of this house. I thank the governing bodies for their responsibility and the work they do that keeps the institution afloat.”

With his eyes set on the future, the president of the structure intends to “continue developing the work that is done by the sections, offering the best conditions for (the Casa do Povo de Ronfe) to develop its activity well and increase the number of sections and of activities that are planned for the community and also.” Furthermore, the restoration works on the facilities are an objective: “We want to continue the restoration works on our building, namely the area surrounding the main building of Casa do Povo de Ronfe.

For the institution to “play its role successfully”, it must “continue working with the help of partners, with the Ronfe Parish Council, the Guimarães City Council and all those who are our sponsors and who support us by over the last few years”, he concludes.

In a statement published on social media, Casa do Povo de Ronfe thanks “all those who over these 90 years have transformed, contributed and supported this institution and all those who still represent us today, help us and make us grow, a fraternal hug and a special thank you. We are here, as we have always been, with our doors open to the people, being what we have always been.”
