Nof Lisbon, Pedro Reis, 56 years old, married and with three children, has assumed, since January this year, the position of member of the advisory board of Banco Português de Fomento and, since July 2022, he has been coordinator of the Believe Movement, a PSD discussion platform with civil society, and president of the Advisory Council of the Portuguese Diaspora Council.

Graduated in Management and Business Administration from the Portuguese Catholic University, the director, who even ran for president of the Order of Economists, has a stint in banking on his CV, after having presided over the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP).

It was between December 2011 and April 2014 that Pedro Reis presided over AICEP. He also served as executive secretary of the Strategic Council for the Internationalization of the Economy (CEIE), was part of the National Council for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and also participated in the Industry Council within the scope of the Ministry of Economy and in the Coordination Meeting of Economic Affairs and Investment (RCAEI).

Pedro Reis was also a member of the General and Supervisory Board of Portugal Ventures.

In May 2014 he became a senior advisor to the BCP Executive Committee and the following year executive administrator of BCP Capital, as its CEO (executive president).

In November 2017, he assumed the direction of Strategic Marketing and ‘Business Development’ and, between 2019 and 2021, the direction of Institutional Banking at Millenium BCP.

The choice of Luís Montenegro for the Economy portfolio, which was in charge of António Costa Silva (independent, from the PS Government), coordinated the AD’s economic program and, during the electoral campaign, defended that the coalition is the alternative that will allow us to “make up for lost time”, invest in reforms and take advantage of opportunities.

In addition to this, he publicly demonstrated support for companies that complained about having delayed incentive payments, within the scope of Portugal 2020, Portugal 2030 and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), which he classified as “serious and incomprehensible” .

The director even warned, in 2023, of the possibility of “leaving healthy companies to fall due to treasury bottlenecks that can be caused by delays in payments”.

For the now holder of the Economy portfolio, Portugal cannot miss the “European train” and national companies do not want promises, but commitments and results.

As president of the Advisory Council of the Portuguese Diaspora Council, he also highlighted the importance of Portugal becoming an “exporting power” and attracting investment in areas such as logistics, health, financial ecosystem, defense and energy.

Since the beginning of 2022, Pedro Reis has worked with some economic groups, family offices and investment funds, both national and foreign, as an external senior advisor and non-executive director.

In addition to his degree in Management and Business Administration, Pedro Reis has training at Harvard Business School in ‘Strategic Finance’, at Insead in the ‘Advanced Management Program’ and at Universidade Católica, having participated in the Advanced Management Program for Executives.

In April 2014, he was decorated by the former President of the Republic Aníbal Cavaco Silva with the insignia of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique for his services to the country in the internationalization of its economy.

Between July 2016 and November 2017, Pedro Reis was non-executive president of the editorial board of the online economic newspaper Eco.

The Prime Minister-designate, Luís Montenegro, and the ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government take office on Tuesday and the Secretaries of State two days later, with the debate on the Government program scheduled for April 11th and 12th.
