The Fermil Cultural Center, a former primary school, and the headquarters of the parish council of Canedo de Basto and Corgo, in Celorico de Basto, are ‘coworking’ spaces. The City Council announced today that the Fermil Cultural Center has become part of the National Network of Coworking Spaces.

There are two spaces managed, respectively, by the parish council of Veade, Gagos and Molares and the parish council of Canedo de Basto and Corgo and have rooms “duly equipped and oriented for this work regime”.

The creation of these spaces was a challenge launched by the City Council to the Parish Councils, with the aim of “creating working conditions for many independent professionals who do not have a physical space to carry out their activity”.

“These coworking spaces are democratic spaces, aimed at various professionals from different areas, where they can develop their projects without the isolation of working at home and the natural distractions of public spaces. An increasingly pressing need considering that there are more and more digital nomads passing through our municipality and needing these spaces to carry out their professional tasks” said José Peixoto Lima, president of Celorico de Basto City Council.

Soon, being in the final stages of completion, two more ‘coworking’ spaces will be made available, one in the town of Celorico de Basto and the other in the urban hub of Mota.
