Bruna Lopes, mother of the 10-year-old boy, filed a criminal complaint for slander and defamation and another for assault
The mother of a 10-year-old student, who is autistic and hyperactive with attention deficit, accuses Escola Básica 2/3 Guilherme Stephens, in Marinha Grande, of describing her son as a wild animal in the disciplinary process initiated, for having lost control in a class.
According to Bruna Lopes’ report to CMthe teachers and assistants interviewed in the disciplinary process say that the student “started to growl”, “made a monster-like, feline-like facial expression, while showing his teeth” and “imitating animals like a lion and cat and making gestures with his hands as if they were the claws of these animals.”
The student’s mother has already filed a criminal complaint for slander and defamation, which joins another for aggression filed against the teacher who that day “threw the boy to the ground, got on top of him and slapped him several times ”. The Ministry of Education claims that “there was no aggression” and that “the teacher immobilized the student on the floor until the firefighters and PSP arrived”.The episode occurred last November, but it was only a few days ago that he had access to the disciplinary process. He made a hierarchical review request, which was denied due to the deadline having been exceeded.“What is written there is overwhelming, my son was punished in a way that is disproportionate to his condition”, said Bruna Lopes, stressing that “he is not an animal, he is a human being and deserves respect and empathy”.
DIAGNOSIS COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT
In 2020, he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and level 1 autism spectrum disorder. The student forgot his card at home, “he realized that he couldn’t eat, he didn’t ask for help and no one was alerted to this situation”.
