Buying a house in Lisbon: 2023 was the year that recorded the highest foreign investment

The data, published by News Diary, reveal that last year foreigners invested more in buying houses in Lisbon. They corresponded to 41% of the total.

The United States and the United Kingdom were the countries that invested the most compared to the previous year. Chinese investment, in the real estate market in the capital, had a drop of almost 50% last year.

Conversely, the Portuguese have increasingly difficult to buy a house in Lisbon. According to INE, until the 3rd quarter of last year, housing values ​​were always growing, which led to a 14% drop in national investment, compared to 2022.

The Chinese also bought fewer houses. The drop was almost 50%. Of the 101 million euros invested in 2022, this amounted to 54 million.

Foreigners are increasingly looking for houses, not only in downtown Lisbon, but also in neighborhoods further away from the centersuch as Campolide and Alcântara.

The biggest investors were the North Americans, with 141 million euros, followed by the French, British, Brazilians and Germans.

In Lisbon, Estrela, Santo António and Arroios are the parishes that attracted the most investment, all above 100 million euros.
