With the new government taking office scheduled for this Tuesday, the outgoing ministers are taking advantage of the last few hours to say goodbye and take stock of the two years in office. About to pass on the testimony to the new AD ministers, the government officials with the portfolios of Parliamentary Affairs, Culture, Housing, Defense and Economy highlight their “pride” in having been part of the Government and praise the “good path” or until the “revolution” made in their areas.

In a short post on social media, the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, left a word of thanks on Friday. Not only did she declare that it was a “pride to serve” the country, but she wished that “we continue to build a more inclusive and supportive society”.

Pedro Adão e Silva, Minister of Culture, even published a https://twitter.com/padaoesilva/status/1774460307194212354 in which he signaled that his “greatest privilege” as governor was “witnessing the enthusiasm of creation and contacting the people who give shape to a vibrant cultural fabric”. Noting that he had “two major objectives” during his mandate, “to provide greater predictability and consistency to the sector and democratize access and participation in cultural life”, the outgoing minister concludes that not everything has been done, but that the Government has made “a good path”.

And he gives as examples the reorganization of the management of museums and cultural heritage or the “consolidation of competitions”, along with what he considers to have been the “decisive instrument”: the “reinforcement of the financial allocation”. “For me, this experience was an honor. For that reason, I feel immensely grateful”, he concludes.

The Minister of Housing chose to make a https://twitter.com/habitacao_pt/status/1773723573116383520, in which he argues that socialists made housing a “national priority” and set in motion a “revolution in the way we see public housing”. “Public housing today responds to everyone, to families with lower incomes, but also to the middle class and younger people”, declares Marina Gonçalves, who also highlights measures such as the rehabilitation of properties, the creation of “new housing projects” or the reinforcement of rental support.

In turn, Helena Carreiras, Minister of National Defense, held a military farewell ceremony this morning at Forte do Bom Sucesso, in Lisbon. Quoted by Lusa, the minister, who will pass on the testimony to future minister Nuno Melo, said she hopes that the “retrograde ideas and intolerance of some” will not prevent the Armed Forces from counting on “the talent and competence of everyone”, underlining the proud to have been the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Defense.

António Costa Silva, outgoing Minister of Economy and the Sea, signed, last Friday, an opinion article in the Express in which he highlights the “honor” of having served the country and is grateful for the opportunity given to him. Costa Silva then takes stock of the two years spent in this ministry, admitting that there were “issues” that he was unable to resolve, but stressing that “in everything that depended on the area of Economy and the Sea we made progress”.
