Deserts. This resulted in the three public tenders for the concession to operate the Forum Machico restaurant/bar, as well as the Madeira Theme Park store and bar, for which no proposals were submitted.
It should be remembered that it was on March 6th that the Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Norte da Madeira published in the Diário da República the announcement of the opening of two competitions for the conclusion of a concession contract for both aforementioned spaces in the Madeira Theme Park, with an execution period of 5 years, which can be renewed for the same period.
In the case of the store, the base value was 30 thousand euros, plus VAT at the legal rate in force, corresponding to a monthly minimum of 500 euros, while for the bar the base value of the procedure was 48,800 euros, plus VAT , totaling a minimum monthly base value of around 1,000 euros, between June and October, and 700 euros, between November and May.
The announcement of the public tender for the Forum Machico spaces was made by Sociedade Metropolitana de Desenvolvimento two days later, with a base value of 204,795 euros, to which VAT is also added and the successful bidder must provide a deposit in an amount corresponding to 2% of the contractual value. The contract also provided for an execution period of five years, which may be renewed for the same period, if the parties so wish, up to a maximum of two renewals.
What is certain is that, with the deadline for submitting proposals scheduled for the last few days of March, none of these competitions managed to find anyone interested in moving forward with the operation of these establishments.
For this reason, in response to the JM, the Development Societies informed that, if there is no award, this tender procedure will be terminated, and there is no provision for an extension of the deadline for submitting proposals.
However, the Board of Directors assured that it will “reanalyze the procedures, in order to respond to market needs and put them back in competition”.
