MC Daniel’s mother is embarrassed in a Portuguese restaurant
MC Daniel shared an atmosphere that his mother went through in Portugal. In a restaurant, Daniela Amorim called the waiter “young man” and was tugged on the ear by a Portuguese man. It was not clear what role the man had at the establishment who relearned it, but he appeared to be one of the employees there.
When she heard her call the waiter “young man”, she was reprimanded by the Portuguese man who said it wasn’t that way he was called in Portugal. Daniela was embarrassed. She asked how people spoke then and heard from the man the correct way to express himself:
“There’s no boy here? So what’s it like?”, she asked.
The man said that it would be correct to call him ’employee’, which bothered her even more:
“Employee? In Brazil we don’t call anyone ’employee'”.
That’s when the guy responded to her in a short and direct way: “You’re not in Brazil. Where are you?”
Daniela was super embarrassed, called him rude and said she didn’t know, as she was learning from him.
In Portugal, the word “moço” is used to refer to a young person, usually children up to 12 years old. When used outside of this context, it is offensive to the Portuguese because they interpret it as an “inexperienced” person.
