A 35-year-old man was detained in preventive detention after being arrested in Loures, Lisbon, outside of the act, for domestic violence against a 5-month-old baby, his partner’s daughter, the PSP announced this Tuesday.

According to the PSP, the man was arrested on Thursday, at 11:00 pm, in Loures, after a complainant went to a police station to report episodes of “serious physical attacks” on a 5-month-old baby, which occurred on the 21st of March, presenting a video that demonstrated the suspect’s attacks.

The complainant spoke to the baby’s mother and the suspect’s partner and, “given her apathy towards the attacks, decided to go to the police department to report what happened”, highlighted the PSP.

Following the complaint, the PSP went to the child’s residence and began “urgent measures to determine responsibilities and check the baby’s health status”.

The child was taken to a hospital unit to check her health status and the suspect was located and taken, together with the girl’s mother, to police facilities.

“Once the necessary evidence was gathered”, the suspect was indicted for committing a crime of domestic violence, having been detained in compliance with an arrest warrant issued by the criminal police authority, while the girl’s mother was accused “by the committing the crime of omission of assistance”.

The child remains in a hospital unit for observation, added the PSP.

The detainee was heard during his first interrogation at the Judicial Court of the District of Lisbon North – Loures, and the most serious coercive measure of preventive detention was applied to him.
