Students from the Young Municipal Assembly project participated in a study visit to Lisbon, on March 22nd, accompanied by school coordinators, Municipal technicians and the vice-president of Silves City Council, Luísa Conduto Luís.

During the morning, students representing schools in the municipality of Silves had the opportunity to visit the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic and the Gardens of the Palace of Belém. They then took a walk, from Rua do Arsenal to Largo do Carmo, during the which identified and described some of the most important moments and figures that marked April 25, 1974. In the afternoon it was time to visit the National Republican Guard Museum.

The Young Municipal Assembly project is promoted by the Municipality of Silves, through the Youth Sector and “aims to develop in young people skills that prepare them for active, conscious, critical and participatory citizenship in society, with a sense of belonging to the community where they are inserted.”

“This is also an opportunity to publicize the functioning of the Portuguese democratic and decision-making system, bringing the youth population closer to local political power, exposing opinions, desires and needs in an organized and participatory way”, states the municipality.
