It was on March 19th that an unusual scene surprised people in Palhais, Barreiro, when they came across a herd of sheep and goats inside the municipal cemetery, the animals fed on the flowers that decorated the various graves.
The incident, recorded on video and shared on social media, shows the animals moving freely within the cemetery, while people express concern about the situation. Several witnesses highlight the urgent need to maintain the site, highlighting the attractiveness of the herbs to animals.
The Barreiro City Council, in response to the media, states that it has already started a process to identify the owner of the herd, this work in conjunction with the police authorities (GNR). Despite the inconvenience, the municipality ensures that no graves were damaged and that measures will be taken in accordance with municipal regulations, including the possible imposition of fines.
The local community awaits the municipality’s next actions, while it reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the preservation and maintenance of the municipality’s cemeteries.
