The Municipality of Lamego will guarantee free veterinary care for pets from needy families in the municipality.

In a press release, the municipality states that this is support for families with economic difficulties, “without the capacity to guarantee essential goods and services for their animals”, in particular medical and veterinary treatments.

For the executive led by Francisco Lopes, “economic difficulties greatly contribute to the growth of animal abandonment” in the municipality and thus decided to move forward with a project that is part of the Municipal Regulation for the Promotion of Animal Welfare, which guarantees free veterinary care , and also provides for other measures, such as promoting the responsible adoption of animals.

Access to this support is done by filling out a form, accompanied by some documents such as the last IRS declaration and respective assessment note, photocopy of the Identity Card or Citizen Card and proof of residence.

Proof of bank identification (IBAN) and the invoice associated with the veterinary expense must also be sent to the email [email protected].

“The Animal Welfare Plan of the Municipality of Lamego has a set of initiatives in place that aims to support the most disadvantaged families so that they can ensure health care for their animals, combat abandonment and promote responsible adoption”, he adds.
