Viseu will mark on Saturday, April 6th, the World Physical Activity Daywith a range of activities including tournaments and championships, conferences and the presentation of this year’s edition of the municipality’s Sports Games.

In the year that Viseu is the European City of Sports, the World Activity Day program begins at 9:00 am, at Forlife at Palácio do Gelo Shopping, where the Viseu Squash Open Absolute Regional Championship will be played – Level 2, a tournament organized by the Brave Viriathvs Runners association and which is part of the official competitions of the National Squash Federation.

At 9:30 am the Viseu International Basketball Tournament Viseu CED24 – Mini12 starts at the Pavilhão Cidade de Viseu, which will continue until Sunday, organized by Gumirães Basket.

Five Portuguese teams will be present – ​​Sporting, Sangalhos, Benfica, FC Porto, and Olivais and Moscavide Basquetebol –, as well as the French from Colomiers Basket and the Spanish from Deportivo Carbajosa.

Also at 9:30 am on Saturday, the conference “Cycling – From training to professionals” begins at Escola Secundária Emídio Navarro, which features, among others, the former cyclist and current sports director of Efapel, José Azevedo, and Tiago Machado , training director of the same professional cycling team.

Later, at 3:30 pm, the presentation of the 2024 edition of the Viseu Sports Gameswhich this year will take place between April 27th and July 28th.

This year the games will have a total of 28 modalities for children and young people between 5 and 15 years old.

Also at the Quartz Museum, the session “Sports Training for Children and Young People: Informed Parents… Responsible Clubs… Happy Athletes!” will take place, featuring professors Abel Figueiredo (Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu) and Jorge Arede (Universidade de Trás -os-Montes and Alto Douro).

On the Fontelo beach football field, Casa do Benfica in Viseu promotes the International Beach Football Pre-Season Tournament between April 5th and 7th.

On Saturday, the program also includes the competition at the Fontelo Pavilion for the Under-23 Judo National Team Qualification Championship and the Open for blind and low vision athletes, and on Sunday, the National Veterans & University Championship.
