The party intends “to make a request to the Constitutional Court for the declaration of extinction of this party, in accordance with the legal powers of this Court”.

This Monday, Volt filed a request for consideration with the Ombudsman’s Office, given the statements made by the leader of the ADN party “which espouse fascist ideology”.

The party intends “to make a request to the Constitutional Court for the declaration of extinction of this party, in accordance with the legal powers of this Court”.

The co-president and candidate for the European elections, Duarte Costa, stressed that the party had gathered “blatant proof of the existence of this serious offense against Portuguese democracy that we sent, in a duly substantiated manner, to the Ombudsman”.

“We highlight the reference that the ADN leader made publicly regarding Tarrafal, seeking to legitimize this exponent of the Portuguese dictatorial regime, as well as the forms of torture, persecution and imprisonment of political opponents or racial hate speech and the dehumanization of individuals, since Bruno Fialho, president of ADN, promotes ideas that deny the universality of human rights, going to the extreme of considering certain human beings as animals”, highlighted Duarte Costa.

In the letter sent to the Ombudsman’s Office, Duarte Costa states that “the most effective way to celebrate the democratic Rule of Law achieved 50 years ago is by demonstrating that it works and that it protects itself from the latent threats that are currently acting and spreading in a explicit, fearless and unscathed in Portuguese society”.

“The correct functioning of the democratic Rule of Law is the best tribute to the efforts and lives that were sacrificed to overthrow fascism in Portugal, an act that allowed us to achieve freedom and life in democracy. We recently witnessed a very expressive and enthusiastic celebration across the country, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th”, he pointed out.
