Frozen sheep meat and frozen chicken seized in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha had an approximate value of 21,130 euros.

The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized at the end of last week, in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha, more than four tons of spoiled meat.

In a statement issued this Tuesday, the entity explains that these are sheep carcasses, frozen sheep meat and frozen chicken, worth approximately 21,130 euros.

Action was initiated by the Southern Regional Unit – Santarém Operational Unit which, after carrying out an examination, proceeded to forward the meat products for destruction or animal feed, according to the analysis carried out.

The seized product resulted from four search warrants, carried out as part of the fight against the crime of clandestine slaughter and sale of damaged or corrupt abnormal foodstuffs, in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha.

The entity says in the statement: “ASAE will continue to develop inspection actions, within the scope of its competences, throughout the national territory, in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in safeguarding food safety and public health of consumers .”
