The list of the Left Bloc (BE) for the next European Elections, headed by Catarina Martins, has two candidates from the district of Braga: Sheila Khan, sociologist and independent and Norberta Grilo, labor inspector and representative of the Bloc in the Union of Parishes of Nogueira, Fraião and Lamaçães.

Sheila Kahn is 15th on the list and Norberta Grilo comes in 2nd among the substitutes.

Sheila Kahn, 51 years old, is a sociologist, researcher at the Research Center for Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies at Universidade Lusófona. She is a guest assistant professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and a commentator on the panel of RDP Africa’s African Debate program.

His research focuses on memory and post-memory, on the narratives of people of African descent and on commitments to historical reparations and the duty of memory from a post-colonial and comparative perspective.

Among her most recent publications are: ‘Sheila Khan and Sandra Sousa (2023), ‘Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida: Weaver of Past and Present Worlds’ (Editora UMinho); – Sheila Khan and Sandra Sousa (2024, in preparation), thematic volume, Emerging Perspectives on Afro-Descendant Cultural Production: Memory, Identity and Global Diaspora, Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies Magazine.

Norberta Grilo, 52 years old, has been a Labor Inspector since 2001. She is from Braga, in the parish of S. João do Souto, and lives in the parish of Lamaçães.

She has a degree in Biological Engineering from the University of Minho, with a specialization in Human Engineering. She has diverse training in the field of labor law, safety and hygiene at work and training of trainers.

Headed by Catarina Martins, former national coordinator of the party, the list presents in second place the current MEP José Gusmão and in third place Anabela Rodrigues, who now holds the role of MEP having replaced Marisa Matias.

The European elections take place on June 9th.
