“Here We Also Dance”

This project encompasses children, young people, the elderly and people with disabilities.

In the month of May, the towns of Barrada and Montemor-o-Novo will once again host a new cycle of activities aimed at different audiences and age groups, with the aim of promoting contemporary dance in the Central Alentejo region and encouraging inclusion through this artistic expression.

Promoting inclusion is one of the fundamental principles of CDCE’s programming, with emphasis on the “Here You Also Dance” initiative.

This activity aims at social intervention and inclusion through dance, significantly involving target groups (children, young people, the elderly and people with disabilities) in processes and activities, as a means of combating feelings of social exclusion.

“Here we also dance” is implemented decentrally, reaching communities with little or no artistic offerings, in geographic areas characterized by demographic decline and an aging population.

The program promotes the quality of life and social integration of people of different age groups, through dance education, as an artistic expression and activity that promotes psychosocial development.

During the month of May, as part of the project, there will also be a visit organized in collaboration with the Associação 29 de Abril to attend the “Casa Corpo” dance workshop at Black Box, on the 23rd of May.

These community activities are carried out in partnership with the Parish Councils and the Associação 29 de Abril, which regularly host fortnightly sessions of Contemporary Dance Workshops for Children and Young People, the Elderly and People with Disabilities, as well as recreational activities during holiday periods.

The “Here we also dance” project has the support of the Monsaraz Parish Council, the Vera Cruz Parish Council and the 29 de Abril Association. All activities are free to participate with prior registration.

The activity “Here we also dance” is part of CDCE’s 2024 program and has the support of the Portuguese Republic – Culture, General Directorate of Arts, and Évora City Council.
