The municipality hosts the first edition of the Rockfest festival on May 4th, which features local and national groups on the line-up
Nine rock and metal bands will participate in the first edition of the rock music festival in Oliveira de Frades, Oliveira de Frades Rockfest, which will take place on May 4th.
“Oliveira de Frades is a region that has many fans of this musical style and they participate a lot in the region’s festivals. So, we decided to organize one in this municipality, since there is this gap”, explained organizer José Rocha.
Responsible for organizing rock festivals and events in some municipalities in the district of Viseu, such as Mangualde, the oldest, which will hold its 30th edition in 2025, José Rocha argued that “festivals do not have to only take place in big cities ”.
“When we organized the first edition in Mangualde we never imagined that we would be celebrating practically 30 editions, with a pandemic in between. Oliveira de Frades will also start as an experiment, but the idea is to continue”, he pointed out.
The festival is scheduled for May 4th, from 5pm to 2am, at the São Vicente de Lafões pavilion. The program features nine bands, including local and national groups.
José Rocha said that, from Lisbon, the band Irae is present, “one of the main bands” of the festival, although Biolence, from Vila Nova de Gaia, “are the headliners, in a year in which they celebrate 25 years of career ”.
From Porto, Pé Roto and Moonshade take to the stage. Evillution, on the other hand, moves from the municipality of Felgueiras, also in the district of Porto.
From the district of Viseu, Zurrapa (Viseu), as well as Tumulo and Raven Horse, from Valadares (São Pedro do Sul), are part of the lineup. Voto Nulo operates at home, as they are from the municipality of Oliveira de Frades.
“These bands also mix styles, from punk rock to the most extreme metal, as well as traditional, because the idea is to have a little variety to please everyone”, explained José Rocha.
