Indicator reflects direct employment generated exclusively in the Region and in the International Services and Industrial France Zone sectors, leaving aside jobs that refer to crew members of ships in the Madeira International Business Registry.

The International Business Center (CINM), better known as the Free Zone, is already responsible for 4,005 direct jobs, as indicated by data from the Regional Statistics Directorate (DREM), referring to 2022, which corresponds to a growth of 17.6 % compared to the previous year.

“It should be noted that this indicator only reflects direct employment generated exclusively in the Region and in the sectors of International Services and the French Industrial Zone (ZFI), leaving aside jobs that refer to crew members of ships in the International Business Register of the Madeira (MAR)”, highlighted the Madeira Development Society (SDM), the managing entity of CINM.

SDM said that the increase in jobs corresponds to the increase in the number of companies licensed in the CINM and also to “greater recruitment” in the area of International Services.

“According to data revealed by DREM, the total number of direct jobs registered in 2022 is the highest value since the CINM was created. By activity sectors, International Services registered an increase of 425 new jobs, that is, an increase of 15.9%, while in ZFI there was an increase of 174 new jobs, that is, 23.7 more %”, highlighted SDM.

The management entity of the Free Zone says that the creation of jobs, “particularly qualified jobs”, is one of the most “strong and visible contributions” of CINM to the Regional economy, “with an impact at various levels, such as revenue tax in terms of IRS and Social Security contributions and to reduce the unemployment rate in the Region”.

In 2023, CINM had 2,643 entities, a growth of 5.8% compared to the previous year.

“Such growth was transversal to all areas that comprise it, namely, Industrial Free Zone, International Services and International Ship Registration. In the Industrial Free Zone, 53 companies were licensed, in International Services 1,589 and in MAR a total of 1,001 vessels”, added the SDM.
