Living up to the slogan ‘Vila das Artes’, Cerveira celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April with a vast program, where the artistic aspect stands out. Symbol of the Freedom achieved by the 1974 Revolution, 10 thousand carnations will be displayed on the balconies of the Town Hall and 50 carnations spread throughout the streets of the historic center. In felt or wood, the two artistic installations surprise for their originality, their size, the hands of those who created them and the proliferation of the message.

“Eco de Carnations” was born from a challenge from the municipality to carry out an artistic-social project, participated by 200 users from seven IPSS’s in the municipality and Unisénior de Cerveira to create 10 thousand carnations by hand in felt, in a convivial and , above all, in a tangible manifestation of the legacy of April 1974, remembering the importance of that historic day, through art and collective memory, sharing it with new generations.

A few weeks and many hours of work will be on display, starting this Wednesday morning, April 24th, at the house of local democracy, the Municipal Chamber, an installation that will be witnessed by many of the participating users. The execution of each of the 10 thousand carnations, a symbol of the revolution, echoes stories, experiences and values ​​associated with the 25th of April, by those who lived before and after.

After appreciating the decoration of the Paços do Concelho building, the Municipality’s invitation is to walk through the streets of the historic center decorated with 50 painted wooden carnations (MDF), approximately 1.70m high and 60cm wide, completely carried out by employees of the City Council’s Operational, Warehouse and Logistics Service. Both artistic installations aim to convey that the legacy of the 25th of April remains alive and influential, leveraging its persistence and relevance today.

It should be remembered that, due to the importance of the anniversary, the commemorative program of the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April promoted by the Municipality of Cerveira is diverse in performing arts and presented in different public spaces, in order to cover all age groups. Until the 28th of this month, ‘Cerveira Celebral Abril’ also offers music, dance, theater, lectures, literature, documentaries, creative performances, creative workshops, exhibitions and the usual formal session. The inauguration of the Palco das Artes, scheduled for April 24th, is one of the highlights.
