Oliveira do Hospital celebrates 50 years since April 25, 1974

Music in concerts, cinema, exhibitions, literary moments, lectures, artistic and sporting activities and educational moments for children are part of the program for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in Oliveira do Hospital, running until the end of the year.

The official celebrations of April 25, 1974 begin on the night of this Wednesday, April 24th, at Jardim Oliveira Mano, in the city of Oliveira do Hospital, at 9:30 pm, with the concert “Cantos de Abril”, with Sara Vidal and Rogério Cardoso Pires.

On Thursday, April 25th, the official ceremonies for the 50th anniversary of April begin at 9:30 am, with a Arruada through the city, by the Fanfarra and Escolinhas dos Firefighters Voluntários de Oliveira do Hospital.

At 10:00 am, in the Town Hall, the flag will be raised with the interpretation of the National Anthem and, at 10:30 am, the Solemn Session of the Celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April 1974 will take place, in the Main Hall of the City Hall.

At 3:30 pm, Largo Ribeiro do Amaral hosts the Municipal Philharmonic Meeting. Next to the Café Central space it is possible to visit the exhibition “25 de Abril de 1974”, by Alfredo Cunha, from the Mário Soares Foundation.

On Friday, April 26th, at the Casa do Povo in Nogueira do Cravo, the film “Salgueiro Maia – O Implicado” will be shown at 9:30 pm.

Music is in the spotlight throughout the weekend. On Saturday, the “Concerto da Liberdade”, with the Coral de Sant’Ana, Orfeão de Vale de Cambra and Grupo Coral de Maçainha, at 9:30 pm, in the Salão Nobre dos Firefighters Voluntários de Oliveira do Hospital.

In Penalva de Alva, the XII Musical Soiree – Special Liberdade will take place at 9pm, with Tuna Recreativa Penalvense and the 7 de Setembro Choir.

Sunday, April 28th, Espaço Café Central hosts, at 6pm, the Miguel Calhaz concert, part of the International Jazz Day.

“Sons of April – Readings and Songs of April with Rafael Abrantes” is the musical moment that follows, on April 30th, at 9pm, at Biblioteca Ludoteca de Lagares da Beira.

Throughout the month of April, the Municipal Library of Oliveira do Hospital and the Biblioteca Ludoteca de Lagares da Beira have a program taking place that includes dramatizations, staged readings, short films and exhibitions.

Physical activity and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle are also included in the April 25th Celebrations Program in Oliveira do Hospital, with walks, basketball, motorbike rides and football gatherings.

The Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital’s program, which evokes the freedom of April, continues until the end of the year, with activities to be announced. The months of May and June include film viewing, round tables of conversation, exhibitions, the staging of a Human Carnation, on the 30th of May, and the Marchas Populares de Oliveira do Hospital, which in this year’s edition, on the 15th of June, are based on the theme of the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974.
