Garrett hosts a session celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April tomorrow

This Thursday, April 25th, Cine-Teatro Garrett will host the Official Commemorative Session of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, promoted by the Póvoa de Varzim City Council. The president of the municipality and the president of the Municipal Assembly will speak at this ceremony, as well as representatives of the political parties PSD, PS, CHEGA, CDU, CDS-PP, IL and BE.

The session, scheduled for 10 am, will also include a cultural moment with the participation of Coro Capela Marta, Coro Pró-Música EMcanto, Aurelino Costa and Carlos Costa.

Entry to this ceremony will be free, subject to room availability. However, you will need to present a ticket.

Half an hour later, the usual Bicycle Tour starts in Praça do Almada and, at 11 am, the Square hosts a concert by the Póvoa de Varzim Musical Band. In the afternoon, at 1 pm, the Table Tennis tournament takes place at the Municipal Pavilion, and at 4 pm there is a workshop for families with the theme ‘Colors of April’, at the Cine-Teatro Garrett. The day ends with the show ‘Cristina Branco sings José Afonso’, at 9:30 pm, at Garrett.

Other actions take place this Wednesday

However, this Wednesday, the eve of the holiday, between 6 pm and midnight, at the Galeria dos Arcos of the Paços do Concelho Building, there will be an artistic event open to students in the 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary school, entitled ‘ Coloring the 25th of April – Education and Art as a form of free expression’.

At 9 pm, in the Salão Nobre of Paços do Concelho, journalist João Gobern will moderate the public debate ‘The relevance of the 25th of April in social evolution’, with interventions by guests José Carlos Vasconcelos, Isabel Ponce de Leão, Manuel Loff and Sofia by Melo Araújo. The debate has free entry, subject to room availability.

To end the day, at 11 pm, there is an a cappella concert by Coral – Pró-Música EMcanto, in Praça do Almada.
