The theater festival that began in February ended last Saturday, April 20th, at the Casa da Cultura de Mira de Aire, with the play Friday 13, staged by the Mirense Cultural Circle Theater Group. It is worth remembering that Mira de Aire was included in the festival’s itinerary, due to the postponement of the play that was previously on the program on March 2nd at the Cineteatro de Porto de Mós, with these facilities suffering damage due to weather conditions.
“O theaters It’s always a different festival because it’s a festival within a specific installation and it gives us the opportunity to have a cultural program during the winter. This year, we had a limitation here with this Mira de Aire Group», says the vice-president of the Chamber and councilor for Culture, Eduardo Amaral. «It was a way of closing the theater cycle and since it is the Mira de Aire group, being able to do it with their community and the people of Porto de Mós can also come and watch, because there cannot be watertight facilities where each one closes itself within itself», adds the person in charge.
O theaters«a point of union and sharing», hosted on stage six plays and six theater groups from five parishes in the municipality, namely Juncateatro – Teatro Regional do Juncal, Mendigal – Mendiga and Arrimal Theater Group, Trupêgo – Grupo Theater of Porto de Mós, the Theater Academy of the Instituto Educativo do Juncal, Círculo – Theater Group of Círculo Cultural Mirense and Teatr’ambu – Theater Group of São Jorge.
This 18th edition allowed everyone to «learn techniques, the possibility of making contacts, managing assets and resources, creating important bonds», said the person in charge. This feeling of community is highlighted by the mayor, noting that «the community itself comes to share what its members are doing», which «guarantees a full house for each group». «The feedback is always positive, because the praise they receive, the recognition from their community is immediate and the associations are as strong as their own community», he said.
For the future of the event, the vice-president of the Chamber foresees an “enhancement” with groups with “another diversity of offerings”, aiming at learning from local groups. «So that our people can see that they can take a leap here or have a greater level of evolution here», the objective being «to grow as theaters».
Currently, the Cineteatro remains closed, with an “electrical reassessment of the structure” still being carried out, and the building is subject to works. In this way, «a protocol is being made with the Cultural Forum, so that it can respond to the use of the Cineteatro». Eduardo Amaral states that the municipality is already developing «most of the activities within the Forum» and all «the other major shows will be held at the Casa da Cultura de Mira de Aire».
