Pateira da Frossos Interpretation Center celebrated its second anniversary

Before several dozen people who attended this anniversary yesterday, Sandra Almeida recalled that it was the generosity of a family from Frossos, through the provision of the old Casa do Professor, which allowed the creation of a municipal facility that is already a reference in the region and in the country. For the cycle path from Angeja to Frossos, land was also donated for the execution of the routes and, in the future connection to Loure, the Councilor also highlighted that this would be possible thanks to the kindness of the local community, committed to improving their parish.

António Loureiro, President of the Municipal Council, also praised the spirit of collaboration of the people of Frossos and highlighted that “as long as there are people collaborating with the Municipality, work will always be done”.

Since its inauguration in 2022, the Pateira de Frossos Interpretation Center has already carried out 112 activities that attracted a total of 2054 participants, with the organization of 3 exhibitions also being highlighted. Spontaneously, 152 people visited the center to see the facilities and its area of ​​activity. Finally, in these two years of activity, 62 national and international volunteering actions were promoted, which demonstrates the growing interest of young people from different backgrounds in playing an active role in preserving and enhancing a landscape with unique characteristics.

It is noteworthy that many activities have been aimed at pre-school and primary school children, with a view to awakening, from an early age, a taste for nature, of working with the earth, of planting, of observing the natural environment that involves differently. Thus, on this anniversary day, the Center received a visit from the Sobreiro Kindergarten, who had fun in the Didactic Garden, which features several new features that enhance the experience in the space – a leisure area with tables and a shed; a more comfortable plant nursery with protection from the sun; the addition of gray sand from the Vouga River to the sensory trail; the placement of a nest box and bird feeder; a new fence for planting blackberries and raspberries; as well as improving routes through the garden.

On a festive day, there was no shortage of traditional birthday cake and musical entertainment, provided by the Cavaquinhos Group from the Senior University of Albergaria-a-Velha.

The Pateira de Frossos Interpretation Center aims to promote the preservation and enhancement of the heritage, landscape and environmental elements of Frossos, within a sustainability perspective and with mechanisms that contribute to the effective reduction of the local ecological footprint. In addition to the environmental preservation component, the Interpretation Center also aims to develop sustainable tourism and preserve the local collective memory.
