On April 22nd, the Intermunicipal Community of Central Alentejo (CIMAC) received at its headquarters the First Secretary of the Intermunicipal Community of Baixo Alentejo (CIMBAL), Fernando Romba, the Vice-President of the Municipal Council of Moura, José Banha and technicians from the municipalities of Beja, Serpa and Moura, to publicize the first phase of implementation of the Grande Rota do Montado – Ecopista de Reguengos, a project considered structuring and a reference for other territories that consider its replicability.
At this meeting, the process of converting the old Reguengos railway branch into a pedestrian and cycling Ecopista, which connects Évora to Reguengos de Monsaraz, passing through the Municipality of Redondo, over 37km, was presented.
After this moment of sharing knowledge, a visit was made to this Ecopista and one of its most emblematic places, the railway bridge over the Degebe River, next to the old Machede station.
Remember that the Great Montado Route covers nine municipalities in Central Alentejo (Arraiolos, Borba, Estremoz, Évora, Montemor-o-Novo, Mora, Redondo, Reguengos de Monsaraz and Vila Viçosa) and will allow the creation of a set of pedestrian routes and cycle paths distributed over more than 1,100 kilometers in length, to which IP contributes 182 kilometers of old deactivated railway channels.
