More than a hundred Vespa lovers leave Arronches for “Volta ao Alentejo”

As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution, Praça da República de Arronches was this Thursday, on a national holiday, before lunchtime, the stage for the 11th Vespa Tour “Volta ao Alentejo”, promoted by Vintage Vespa from Felgueiras.

This group, as explained by the Mayor of Arronches, João Crespo, was received “with pleasure” in the town, on this very important day for the country. “They are making a trip around Alentejo on a Vespa and they gave us this challenge of welcoming them today, on this day so symbolic for all of us and making their departure from here to make their way back to Beja”, reveals the mayor, who, still Before the group’s departure, he was exchanging memories with the person responsible for the initiative.

João Crespo remembers that this specific day is always more dedicated to protocol ceremonies, and, first thing in the morning, the flags were raised in the Town Hall. Also today, an exhibition dedicated to the Forcados Amadores de Arronches, which celebrates 25 years, was inaugurated, and there was also space to read the minutes of the Council meeting on April 25, 1974. “The revolution was happening and the Municipal Council of Arronches was gathered”, recalls the president, noting that children from the School Group participated in this session, whom he would like to thank for their collaboration.

The celebrations in the town end on Saturday night, with a concert by Luís Represas, who will be joined on stage at the Cultural Center by the Cuban pianist Miguel Nuñez and the Ibérica Chamber Orchestra, in a show that also features special participation of students from the Senior Academy and the Arronches School of Music.

The person responsible for the group of Vespa lovers, Vasco Alves, reveals that there are 110 participants on this route through Alentejo, including 20 women, from all over the country. This tour, which only ends on Sunday, the 28th, includes visits to Campo Maior, where a token will be given to Comendador Rui Nabeiro, and also to Elvas. The group also passes through places such as Viana do Alentejo, Alvito, Beja, Serpa, Moura, ending the trip in Estremoz.
