The origins of Chefs on Fire are quite peculiar: the sister of the executive producer, Gonçalo Castel-Branco, asked him if he could cook for 60 people at his birthday party. With just a small Alentejo kitchen and a dream, Gonçalo had to resort to a fire on the ground to be able to feed so many people. That’s when he thought: how would professional chefs act in this situation? The friendly roots of the event remain to this day, and, in addition to the food, the focus is always on conviviality.

After the success of Aveiro’s first pop-up edition, the city will once again welcome Chefs on Fire on the 19th, 20th and 21st of July. Nine national and international chefs – three per day – are challenged to cook dishes designed specifically for the event, using only fire, smoke and wood. During the meal, there is also live music. The event is part of the Festival dos Canals program – a multidisciplinary artistic event, taking place in various locations in Aveiro –, so there will be no shortage of entertainment around it.

In order to enhance the intimacy of this gastronomic experience, the days are divided into shifts: lunch (from 12.00 to 17.00) and dinner (from 18.00 to 23.00). Each shift includes four dishes – meat, fish, vegetarian and dessert –, prepared by three chefs, and a concert. The cost is €40 for adults and €20 for children up to 12 years old. Tickets can be purchased here.
