Region will receive 187 million euros from European funds – Immediate

Douro Tâmega e Sousa, a region within the intervention area of the Tâmega e Sousa Intermunicipal Community (CIM), will receive around 187 million euros of European funds, in the next community framework.

The Territorial Development and Cohesion Contract, an instrument that formalizes this financial envelope, has already been signed between the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of Tâmega e Sousa and the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-NORTE), as the Management Authority of the NORTE 2030, in a ceremony that brought together the seven CIMs from the North of the country and the Metropolitan Area of Porto, and which was presided over by the Deputy Minister and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida.

This value represents a 72% increase in European Union funds allocated to this region, which at the beginning of the previous community framework – NORTE 2020 – was around 108 million euros. This increase in funding, which is the largest recorded in all of the eight sub-regions that make up the North region, will translate into significant growth in public and private investment in this territory.

This financial envelope is the result of a negotiation between CCDR-NORTE and the eight intermunicipal entities in the North region, with the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa collecting 14% of the NORTE 2030 budget allocation for intermunicipal entities.

For the President of the Intermunicipal Council of the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa, Pedro Machado, “the execution of this contract will allow the implementation of the territorial development strategy defined by the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa until 2030, and unanimously approved by the 11 mayors of the region , reinforcing its role in its implementation and ensuring greater autonomy in project management?”

Urban regeneration, water and sanitation, digital transition, energy efficiency, support for companies, promotion of educational success, combating social exclusion and requalification of education infrastructure, primary healthcare, equipment Social and sporting activities will be Douro, Tâmega and Sousa’s biggest bets for the next community framework.

These bets have, for the President of the Intermunicipal Council of the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa, a common objective for the 11 municipalities of this region, which is territorial cohesion: “the value negotiated for the next community framework lives up to the demands of this CIM with several guardianships, over the last few years, and will allow the work to continue to reduce economic, social and demographic asymmetries with a view to its development and territorial cohesion, but it will also contradict evidence, which was the fact that this is the sub- northern region with lower community support per inhabitant”.
