Ranchos de Pombal will recreate the cornbread cycle at the inauguration of Etno Parque do Cotrofe, this Saturday

The renovated Etno Parque do Cotrofe opens this Saturday, at 4pm, in a ceremony presided over by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado, and which will also feature an ethnographic representation of the cornbread cycle, promoted by the folklore groups in the parish of Pombal. A tradition that will, from now on, be perpetuated in the mural that will be inaugurated on the occasion, by artist João Ribeiro, moments after the presentation of a film.
Built by the Pombal Parish Council, Etno Parque do Cotrofe represented a total investment of around 275 thousand euros, with support from the 2020 Rural Development Program, through the Terras de Sicó Development Association, and the Municipality of Pombal. The works carried out in the old picnic park transformed the place into an Ethno Park, where the “Reproduction of the Broa Cycle” now stands out.

Weekend with countless activities
Although the inauguration of Etno Parque do Cotrofe is the highlight of the Pombal Parish Council’s agenda for this weekend, the executive led by Carla Longo also has other initiatives planned.
This Saturday morning (the 27th), another edition of Pombalíadas is taking place, an initiative from that municipality, aimed at children in the 1st cycle of schools in the parish and within the scope of Curricular Enrichment Activities (AEC). The objective “is to raise awareness and encourage the practice of sports among the educational community of Pombal, through a series of athletics events based on the modern Olympics”, explains the Parish Council. “We will encourage children towards Olympic ideals and the spirit of individual overcoming, always in a context of respect, camaraderie, mutual help and fun”.
On Sunday, the morning will feature free screenings for stroke risk factors, starting at 9 a.m., at the Junta headquarters, where participants in another edition of Pombal em Rolamentos will also be welcomed, in a race that is part of the Championship National Bearing Carts and Trikes.
From 2pm onwards, it is possible to watch the carts and trikes descend from the hillside of the Castle to Rua Albergaria dos Doze.
