The city of Viseu will celebrate World Dance Day, next Monday (April 29), with a weekend dedicated to art which, recalls the Chamber, is recognized “as a universal, free, aggregating and inclusive language , and promoter of ideas such as freedom of expression and equal rights”.

The initiative takes place from Saturday (27th) and is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Viseu and around a dozen schools, companies and artistic formations in the municipality: Alidanças, Energética, Escola de Dança Lugar Presente, Dançado com a Diferença , Street Gymn ForLife, Pedro & Fernanda, Bailado Giselle Brites and Viseu a Dançar.

Tomorrow will be filled with open classes in classical ballet, hip-hop and modern and contemporary jazz, as well as classical dance, kizomba and bachata workshops. The day culminates with the presentation of all classes at Escola Streetgymn with the show “Kontrastes”, at Palácio do Gelo Shopping.

On Sunday (28th), activities take place from 3pm at Mercado 2 de Maio and Parque Aquilino Ribeiro with exhibitions and presentations (Escola de Dança Pedro & Fernanda, Lugar Presente, Street Gymn and Dançado com a Diferença) followed by workshops, including merengue, hip-hop, European dances and contemporary dance, ending the day with a performance by DJ Nelson and Marcelo at 6pm.

Initially it was planned that Rossio would be one of the stages, but the rain forecast for Sunday led to the venue being transferred to Mercado 2 de Maio.

The last day dedicated to the celebrations, Monday (29th), begins with a presentation of the dance video “Continuamos Aqui/We’re still here”, made by the Viseu a Dançar na Escola da Ribeira project at 9:45 am.

This project aims to combat loneliness among the elderly and brings together three institutions in Tondela: the Santiago de Besteiros Social and Parish Center, the Tourigo Social Center and the São Salvador de Tonda Parish Social Center. In 2023, he was chosen to be part of the 31st Almada Dance Fortnight.

At 10:30 am, the Mundão School Group hosts the presentation of the video dance “Flores em Ti” and a conversation with two performers from Dançado com a Diferença. From 6pm onwards, there will be classical ballet and hip-hop classes organized by Alidanças.
