Chamber says it was “the best execution of the last four years”

The Chamber of Barcelos guarantees that the 2023 Budget had the best budget execution of the last four years. The municipality’s accounts were approved the day before yesterday at an extraordinary meeting of the municipal executive. On the revenue side, execution was 95%, expenditure was 81%.

“This accountability demonstrates well the dynamics of municipal management and substantiates the implementation on the ground of projects and measures that are strategic for the development of the municipality, giving expression to the electoral commitments that the current municipal majority established with the people of Barcelona”, states the president of the Chamber, Mário Constantino Lopes, remembering that, from 2020 to 2023, municipal investment “almost doubled”.

When it comes to numbers, he stated that 37 million euros were invested in works (in 2022 there were 15 million). More than 5 million euros were invested in cultural recreational and leisure facilities, with the biggest investments being the Rehabilitation of the Help Point do Peregrino building, the execution of the Urban Circular Cycle Route, the urban section of the Ecovia do Cávado and the second phase of the Cidade de Barcelos Stadium. Accessibilities followed with more than four million euros. The majority of this money was invested in the construction of the widening of the Overpass to the Minho Line, in Aborim, in the modernization of EM 505 between EN 306 – Barcelinhos – Carvalhas and the improvement of the conditions at bus stops. With regard to the Education sector, the municipality led by Mário Constantino highlights the investment of 1.8 million for the requalifications of the Basic School EB1/JI in Pousa and EB1 in Carapeços, and the more than one million euros invested in the removal of asbestos roofing in eighteen school buildings.
