Quarteira celebrates the 50th anniversary of April 25th for 3 days with various activities. On the 21st, the Centro Autárquico hosted the Cantares de Abril «For Santa Liberdade», by Afonso Dias, in an intimate session.
Today, Freedom Day, the city woke up to the sound of Dawn. At 9 am, in the Centro Autárquico square, the traditional raising of the flag took place to the sound of the National Anthem, performed by Lígia Pereira, who then sang the eternal theme of the Revolution, Grândola Vila Morena, by José Afonso.
This was followed by the recitation of poems alluding to Freedom by Fernando Cabral and Pedro Monteiro.
The Centro Autárquico square was also enriched with the art exhibition “We are not artists, we fit in”, by students from ESLA – Escola Secundária Dr.ª Laura Ayres (PIEF class).
The ceremony also included a visit to the exhibition of works “Liberdade com Arte” by the Dra. Laura Ayres School Group, which is available inside the Centro Autárquico until May 3rd.
The official ceremony concluded with the traditional Pigeon Release by the Sociedade Columbófila Louletana and the now usual and long-awaited offering of carnations to the population present with the collaboration of the Scouts of Quarteira – Group 1052.
This solemn moment was attended by the executive of the Quarteira Parish Council, led by Telmo Pinto, the president of the Quarteira Parish Assembly, Lígia Correia Brito, members of the various party benches in this Local Government body, the vice-president from Loulé City Council, David Pimentel and councilor Carlos Carmo, among others.
The end of the celebrations, scheduled for the 27th, is reserved for the show “Ondas da Liberdade”, by the Leirena Teatro company, at 3:30 pm, in Praça do Mar.
From May 31st to June 5th, the Municipal Center will also host the collective exhibition of the Municipal Library Network entitled “Abril por cá!”, where the works of the D. Dinis School Group will be present.
The celebrations are jointly organized by the Quarteira Parish Council and the Loulé City Council.
