The “serious posters with goofy illustrations” are the calling card for the work of Rosa Rodrigues and Leonor Coelho. For more than 15 years, the duo has come together in a studio in Lisbon to show their “idiotic way of seeing the world” with pens and a blank sheet of paper. The animated style seems like something out of a children’s book, but there are no thematic limits.
After several experiences at book fairs, street markets and pop-up spaces, the artists wanted to give new forms to this project. This is how Lisbon Paper Company was born, a concept store that opened its doors in March in a historic space in Cais do Sodré, in Lisbon. The goal? Having a space that serves as a love letter to the manual work done in our country, whether through art, decorative objects or even pieces of clothing. “We thought that a space full of character was ideal for us to bring together all the beautiful pieces that we would like to have with us”, explains Leonor to NiT.
It is with a minimalist and welcoming decoration that the founders give all the protagonism to the pieces. The paintings that appear on the walls and shelves — some referring to children’s stories, others to the female body — are complemented by crockery that adorns wooden tables, the clothes in chariots or the jewelry that peeks discreetly through the displays.
